This year, our school is hosting the play, Pride and Prejudice. So many students are thrilled to be in the play and to be on the stage with the environment of their peers. For some students, this will be their first play that they’ve been in.
As for newcomers to the play scene, Danica Kaus (‘29) is playing Mrs. Hill for her first play at school. Danica is excited to be working with upper classmen that have experience and know the stage.
“For my first play, I’m most excited to immerse myself in my character and to work with seniors to get more knowledge,” Kaus said.
One upperclassman, Coen Olexa (‘26), who has been in seven plays and musicals, is excited to be in his very last play at our school. He is glad his last play gets to be with some of his favorite members.
“As this is my last play here at North Point, I am really excited to just work with this team again,” Olexa said.
It takes a lot of skill to get on a stage and play a role that’s not like you, which is just like Mr. Olexa. He claimed this role is really tough but he is excited to work with the people around him and figure it out.
“My character is a really tough part to play, but it gives me a lot of room to work off of my fellow cast member’s reactions,” Olexa said.
It obviously takes a lot of skill to play a role that is not like you, just like Isabel Ghafoori (26). Ghafoori is playing one of the meanest characters, Miss Bingley. She has been in one play before this and she has never been a mean character and she’s not mean in real life, so she is looking forward to a change.
“I’m excited to be able to play a mean character for once,” Ghafoori said.
Mr. Milhous meticulously selected students who would perfect the roles. One of the most important parts of the play is that it’s the first classic play that our school has introduced.
“Pride and Prejudice is a classic loved by so many! It’s a book that I always loved and have always loved comparing the different versions of adaptations,” Milhous said. “We have also never done a classic play here, and I wanted to give our students an experience of acting and designing a classical piece.”
It is so thrilling to see so many people playing new roles and stepping outside of their comfort zone to play interesting characters. The play will be through March 12, 13 and 14, so be there and see the amazing actors and actresses starring in the play.
