The girls’ soccer team is kicking off the season by sharing what they are most excited about and their goals for the upcoming season.
“I am excited to be able to play with my friends again and see what the team can do,” Alex Coe (‘27) said.
A different set of people from different soccer backgrounds brings the girls together.
“My goals are to get better and be able to play with all the girls since we all come from different teams and styles of playing,” Coe said.
Changing and being a better player and noticing the change is a significant thing.
“My jersey number is 11,” Coe said. “I have been 11 for both soccer and basketball all of high school. This number was new to me in high school and is an example of my high school career and how I have changed as a player in both sports from high school season,” Coe.
Getting to make new friends and bond with the new coaches as an upperclassman can be such a fun experience.
“I’m excited about being an upperclassman, it will help me and also hanging out with my soccer friends every day and new coaches,” Leah Peters (‘27).
Being stronger for oneself and the team just shows how much of a team player they are.
“My goal is to be a better, stronger player for the team and prove to the coaches I am capable of doing what some people don’t think I can do,” Peters said.
For some, the jersey number holds a maternal value.
“I am number 4, and this is my mom’s favorite number, so I got it for her,” Peters said.
Being a good team brings everyone together in the team.
“I’m excited to hang out with all my friends again and to finally be an upperclassmen,” MacKenzie Eckelkamp(‘27) said.
Togetherness for a good team is the foundation to be successful.
“To get the team to work together and play our best,” Eckelkamp said.
Consistency in life with numbers is so important.
“I am number 6, and it’s important to me because it has been my number for everything all my life,” Eckelkamp said.
For some girls, it’s not just about winning, it’s about being with the people they love.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to get together with my school friends and just play soccer with them,” Skyler Summers (‘27) said.
Leading by example is always important.
“My goal is to just continue to strive to be myself and help others grow,” Summers said.
Birthdays are an important part of your life, and people connecting it with another important thing in their lives shows how much they care.
“I want my jersey number to be 3 or 14. 3 is my club jersey. 14 is mine and my dad’s birthday date,” Summers said.
Upperclassmen will always have a special place in the coach’s heart.
“I have a great senior class, so I’m excited to see them just out doing their thing,” Coach Schroeder said.
Winning spirit is the one to have.
“My goal is to win the conference and be in a position to be in the districts,” Coach Schroeder said.
Motivating spirit, growing spirit, same thing, different words.
“The best part of the team is just to be around kids who are motivated,” Coach Schroeder said.
With all the goals and with all the excitement, our girls are ready to kick it this season and they will just jump higher on the improvement scale this year. Tryouts start March 2. For more info email [email protected].
