Do you hear that tap sound? Do you hear the clapping? Do you feel the feeling after hitting an ace? We all know what it means…It’s the start of volleyball season.
For many, they are just wanting to come back on the court and win.
“I’m excited to be back with some of my teammates and to win games,” Connor Mahoney (‘28) said.
Improving should always be on the mind for every player in order to get better.
“My goal for this season is to just really get better and to have a lot of fun,” Mahoney said.
For many, their jersey number holds a lot of family history.
“My jersey number is my lucky number and 21 is my Dad’s old number,” Mahoney said.
For some, seeing people they have fun with on the court is an essential thing.
“I’m excited to see all my teammates again,” Preston Gresco (‘27) said.
I see shooting for the stars over here because the boys will be working hard this season to get their goal to be a reality.
“ My goal is to win districts this season,” Gresco said.
Practice makes a man perfect.
“The team has made me better by practicing hard and we get better together,” Gresco said.
For some it’s comeback season, this year. Injuries and mistakes have the same effect, both make you stronger and you learn from them.
“I’m excited to be playing with friends, and last year I didn’t get to play because I broke my meniscus, and excited for getting coached by coach young because he is a great coach,” Ethan Ball (‘27) said.
The team has similar goals, which means more unity in the team.
“This season the goal is just to be able to go to districts, and improve,” Ball said.
A lot of players hold a lot of sentiment behind their jersey numbers.
“My jersey number is part of my favorite bible verse, I have had this number for a while and I have had nicknames on it for a while because it goes with my last name,” Ball said.
For some, it’s about taking the game to the next level and proving they can do it.
“I’m excited about being able to play with varsity,”Cooper Ewens (‘28) said.
Many have very set dedicated goals for themselves.
“My goal is to be able to jump top serve, “Ewens said.
Many players didn’t have a thought on what number would be the best, their family member helped them pick it I guess now we know mom knows best.
“My jersey number is 5, and I just picked it because my mom picked it and I just stuck with it,” Ewens said.
This year our team will be better than ever and is ready to show the audience who they are. Official tryouts start March 2. For more info about volleyball please feel free to email [email protected].
