The first two games were a hit for the NPHS basketball team. We lost, but our team’s efforts paid off. The efforts are more important than winning or losing for our team.
Recognizing your mistakes and working on them is what ultimately helps.
“The first game didn’t go so well because we lost, and we could do better, but since it’s the first game, we never do that well,” Alex Graham (’27) said.
For many, they were still understanding the game.
“I say the second game we did way better because we started figuring it out more,” Graham said.
For many, the first game didn’t go as planned.
“Our first game was okay,” Micah Felder (’28) said.
The players were bummed out that they lost, but the team spirit was still up.
“Our second game was way better than the first one, but we still lost, though,” Felder said.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Many players need chemistry on the court.
“I mean, the first game went pretty good, everyone is just new, so we haven’t gotten the chemistry yet,” Azarree Johnson (’28) said.
When the chemistry’s up, our team is up.
“The second game was worse than the first, but we came together a little bit,” Johnson said.
Many of them were there for the first time to just play the game and have fun on the court.
“The first game was cool, and it looked good for my first year of basketball,” Ethen Young (’26) said.
For many, it’s just about experiences and efforts.
“The second game, I was mad because we lost, but it was cool because of the experience,” Young said.
Many felt like they didn’t do well, but their trying is enough.
“We did really badly for our first game,” Lashawn Knights (’27) said.
Our team bounced back from their first game and did better; they went above and beyond, and broke the expectation scale.
“The second game, we went out there and played better than everybody expected us to. We just have to fix little stuff, and if we do, I feel like we will prevail this season and be way better than last season,” Knights said.
They had their best game, which was against Liberty on Friday night. They went into overtime and lost in the last minute.
“Overtime is always stressful because we have another quarter to play,” Knights said.
The adrenaline rush was there for some players and the game was still fun for them.
“Overtime was fun and it was nerve racking,” Johnson said.
However, let’s not underestimate our powers and what we hold. Our grizzly season has just started and we will keep pushing and trying.
