As 2022 keeps surprising us, we have Academy Awards that just came up. Who won this year? If you watched, it was on March 27, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. CDT. A few students at our school watched it. As a lot of conflicts happened that night, let’s hear what our students think about the Oscars.

“I think CODA deserved the best picture award because it was very thoughtful and meaningful,” Alysa Rooney (‘25) said.

Was the fight that broke out necessary? On LIVE TV, it has been spoken about and chatted about a lot. That was the biggest conflict especially on a big night. Full of awards and great people.

“I think it was a good drama, but on TV it should’ve been left off the internet,” Rooney said.

Although Will Smith knocked Chris Rock out he won “Best Actor”. He is famous for a lot of movies. Do his fans still support his win?

“Will Smith is still such a great actor, he definitely deserves the win for Best Actor. Even if what happened, happened,” Rooney said.

Others do not think much of what Smith did.

“Violence is never the answer,” Parker Tieman (‘25). “People should be able to control themselves, especially if they are always being looked at and are famous. It was a pretty messed up joke.”

Iris Swafford (‘25) agrees.

“Chris Rock had that one coming,” Swafford said. “Don’t be making jokes about someone’s wife, especially if she’s struggling with a condition.”

Some people are even saying the action was staged, but the public may never know.
