As Artificial Intelligence is getting more and more advanced everyday, it’s getting harder and harder to tell what’s real apart from what’s not. If you go on social media, you may come across videos, or images that are completely generated by Artificial Intelligence. From bunnies jumping on a trampoline to our president posting AI pictures depicting himself as the pope to his social media, it seems that AI takes up a pretty large chunk of our feeds on social media.
To make matters worse, OpenAI, known as the company behind ChatGPT, released their new AI video generator, Sora 2, which has created hyperrealistic videos of people like Jake Paul, Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy and Kobe Bryant. It has even been able to perfectly recreate popular shows, such as South Park, Family Guy and even SpongeBob. Such AI videos have gone viral on social media like TikTok, and Instagram, where people comment on just how real the videos look.
People are even getting paid, or making a living off of effortless content, completely generated by Artificial Intelligence. There is even an entire account dedicated to using Artificial Intelligence to turn historical and current events into Minions.
Now, it may seem that we are trying to put down AI generated content, but that’s not exactly the point that we are going for. AI content is most of the time, pretty entertaining to watch, or even create images that no human could ever create. For example, if anyone has a younger sibling, then you would probably know about a group of AI characters called Italian Brainrot, which depicts animals mixed together with foods and other objects using Artificial Intelligence.
Even our president is using AI. Throughout the recent months, President Donald Trump has posted AI pictures and videos onto his social media accounts. One of these videos depicted Gaza as a Trump paradise, complete with a giant gold statue of the president. He also posted an AI image of himself as the Pope around the time of Pope Francis’ death, and he’s even posted an AI video of himself in a plane dumping fecal matter onto a group of ‘No Kings’ protesters.
Some students believe that Artificial Intelligence has a positive impact.
“AI is awesome,” Kylen Bury (‘28) said, “You can create anything with it, you can see things you’ve never seen before.”
Other students believe that Artificial Intelligence is hurting our society.
“AI is not very good, I feel that it should be limited to what you can make,” Dresden Sullens (‘28) said, “If it’s in the hands of people who know how to use it nefariously, it could be bad, but it does have its applications.”
Now, with Artificial Intelligence systems such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Grok AI being able to generate realistic looking images and videos now, just imagine what AI will look like within the next 10 years.
