The boys’ varsity soccer team took home the championship trophy at the Hannibal Pirate Tournament last weekend, going a perfect 3-0 to secure the trophy.
They ended their tournament with a 3-0 win against Rolla in their final game, after winning their first two games. Their win against Hannibal was especially meaningful for the team.
“Last year we lost to Hannibal in districts, and then we ended up mercy ruling them this year, so yeah, it felt pretty good.” Andrew Dean (27) said. Dean credited the team’s offensive switch as a huge factor in their success.
“We actually started playing offense,” he said. “We all just kind of clicked, and we got past the first couple of tough games this season.
For some players, the highlights were beyond just winning.
“Scoring a banger.” Dalton Albers (26) said confidently when asked about the best part of the tournament.
Senior Luke Hodge pointed to a team moment when asked about his favorite part of the tournament.
“When the JV kids scored some goals,” Luke Hodge (26) said.
After winning the trophy, the soccer team turns its attention to the rest of the season with confidence.
