This year, tennis has made a whole lot of progress. However, the improvements have not just been happening this year. It has been a growing sport over the years. Coach Telker has been the coach since the school opened and has seen the changes.
“I have seen more popularity in tennis,” Telker said.
He has big plans for the season.
“My plans are to rebuild and continue developing the program after 15 seniors graduated,” Telker said.
Coach Telker takes a whole lot of pride in tennis, and he’s glad the numbers are growing over time. He recommends people who haven’t played to try it.
“I would recommend it,” Telker said. “It’s a very relaxing sport, a chill atmosphere in a sports mindset, and it’s really fun.”
The team has a lot of opportunities for team bonding.
“We do Six Flags (Fright Fest), team dinners, but it is mostly varsity, and we do family and friends bbq tournaments, and we do big sis, little sis,” Telker said.
Big sis/little sis gives the opportunity to the tennis players to unite as a team and as friends.
“I think it’s kinda cool, the lower classmen get to know the upperclassmen and it helps us be more friends and not separated like how it is right now,” Addison Hendee (‘27) said.
With big sis/little sis, you forget if you are on jv or varsity and you are just there as a player and you don’t have to worry about your ranks. You are just there
”I think that the big/little sis has helped the team to bond by bringing together the upper/lower classmen, as well as the jv/varsity team, since we don’t always get as much time to practice with each other,” Mckenzie Creech (‘26) said “It has helped form new friendships, as well as offer help to those who need it. Not to mention, that it’s always a great encouragement whenever you get a little treat from your sister before a match.”
