Cheer. Some might look at cheerleading and think it’s easy, but it’s actually very difficult and a physically demanding sport. They have to lift each other up and perform complex routines from memory. One mistake can mess everything up.
This year, North Point’s cheerleading team is bigger and better than ever before.
“I think we’re gonna do a lot this year,” Evelyn Martin (‘25) said.
Martin went on to explain how cheer has practice every weekday for about two hours.
“It’s a lot, but it’s worth it,” Martin explained.
Cheerleaders not only perform at football games, but also at separate competitive events. These events have different cheer teams fight it out to see who can do the routines more skillfully and better than the others. These are very high energy and exciting events, but they can be nerve wracking.
“There’s a lot at stake,” Braelyn Mueller said.
Ms. Grigsby and Ms. Moyer are the coaches for the cheer team this year and also is a teacher here.
“She’s great!” Mueller said.
Other cheerleaders gave similar praise for their coach.
“She is supportive and energetic, she really cares about the team,” another cheerleader said.
North Point Varsity Cheer participated in regionals at Lindenwood University a couple weeks ago. The Team performed fantastic and brought home a first place plaque and were invited to compete at state. This event will go down in history as North Point High School’s first ever 1st place win in cheer. Only the top three teams in each division were invited to state, this will take place at Southeast Missouri State University in December.
