The new school year has already brought new people to our school, including teachers. One of them is Ms. Chelsea Hazell. She is an English teacher and absolutely loves what she does.
“I love teaching, I wouldn’t want to do anything else,” Hazell said. “The kids are the reason I want to keep teaching.”
Ms. Hazell also said if she could pick something her students would want to remember about her it would be that she cares about them and always wants to be nice to them.
“One time I had a kid who came up to me and said, even though I have a D in your class, you’re still my favorite teacher because you’re nice to me,” Hazell said.
Being a teacher for high school students is important to her.
“My goal is getting students to follow their passions and being prepared for life wherever they go,” Hazell said.
Teaching has impacted her personal life as well.
“I feel like I’ve developed mom skills,” she said. “My students inspire me and teach me so many things all the time.”
In her years of teaching, she says there are two things she will never forget.
“One of my students committed suicide. It was a bad time for everyone,” Hazell said. “But all of the kids came together and went to all the events in honor of the student. They helped each other out a lot. I will never forget that.”
Ms. Hazell has another thing she will never forget.
“I don’t know why people say this and future generations are doomed,” she said. “They Are smart and bright kids. You guys also know a lot more about technology than others.”
Hazell loves what she does, but if English wasn’t what she had chosen to do, she would be an art teacher.
“I would pick art,” Hazell said. “I like art because of its expressiveness. I’m horrible at drawing. But it’s a great way of expressing yourself and how you’re feeling.”
Ms. Hazell can’t wait to keep teaching and doing what she loves most.
