We have officially had our first couple of AMI Days of the year and many students and parents were pretty happy for the extra week of winter break. However, there were still some people who thought we should have still gone to school and just had a late start.
“Personally I don’t really mind these. It’s pretty much a snow day with like one assignment so it really isn’t that bad,” Sophie Kussener (‘26) said.
AMI days are days where we do not have school but are still required to do school work for attendance. If the work for the day is not completed then you get marked absent for the day. Unlike a couple of years ago when we were completely virtual, on these days there are no zoom meetings, which many people are happy about, and you usually are only required to do one or two assignments per class.
“The AMI days were pretty easy,” Peyton Burgess (‘28) said. “It was the start of the semester so we didn’t have much work to do anyways.”
One of the things that many students are not happy about is the fact that once we run out of the AMI days, days start getting added to the end of the school year. High school and middle school students alike have strong viewpoints about AMI Days.
“We shouldn’t have days added onto the end of the year because we are still doing all of the work we are assigned,” Emma Burgess (’30) said.
Right now, the last day of school is May 23, but if we have to add on it might be May 30 or even further past that and into June. We have about two AMI days left until we go back to regular snow days and a couple days get added onto the end of the school year.
