In 2024, the Atlantic hurricane season witnessed the formation of two formidable storms: Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. These hurricanes resulted in widespread devastation, necessitating immediate response and long-term recovery measures. The combined death toll from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton currently stands at 230 lives lost.
The enduring impacts of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton are multifaceted. From an economic standpoint, destroying infrastructure, residences, and businesses may lead to a protracted period of decline, with local economies grappling to regain stability. Environmentally, the storms can inflict enduring harm on ecosystems, including coastal erosion, loss of wildlife habitats, and water contamination. Socially, the displacement of families and the psychological repercussions of the disaster can have lasting effects, impacting community cohesion and mental well-being.
The damage hit several states, including Florida, where towns, like Englewood were devastated.
