With the new school year in full swing , so is the season of football. The Homecoming Football game is coming this Friday, and everyone was excited to cheer on our football team as they hope to stomp Fort Zumwalt East. Hoco week has always been a moment to share the school spirit and the HOCO football game is the best way to end the week, before the dance.
The football team had the Jamboree to prepare for the first game. At the Jamboree, they played against Fort Zumwalt West, Fort Zumwalt East and Winfield. Out of many great moments, one highlight of the Jamboree was when Fort Zumwalt East fumbled.
“The fumble boosted our team’s self-esteem and helped our egos to win the game,” Domenic Colombatto (‘25) said.
To have a good team, you need a good connection with each other. Luckily the Grizzlies Football Team is one of the most connected, as the players say.
“As a player, I can say that we have a great bond and working together gets better every year because we work together like a family,” Colombatto said.
Homecoming game is unique from the other games because the crowds are bigger, the spirit is higher, and the energy is insane.
“There’s more pressure to win because it’s homecoming,” Brock Banze (‘26) said.
However, it is not just pressure. There is also a lot of anticipation and excitement.
“It’s special because of what we get to look forward to afterward, like the celebration and the dance,” Trey Dondle (’25) said.
With a winning record of 3-1, they are going into the game with confidence. The school has been gaining their trust in them as well. The student body looks forward to the game.
“I look forward to seeing all of the cheerleaders and seeing everybody’s school spirit at the game,” Amiya Potter (‘26) said.
The head coach, Alex Zangriles, has been leading this team since the school started four years ago. Many of the players have been on varsity since their freshmen year so the bond is very strong. Everyone hopes in a good season, full of wins and memories.
