On September 25th, we had our very first “See You At The Pole” event ever at North Point High School.
“See You At The Pole,” also known as the national student prayer day, is an event held throughout American schools that gives Christian students and staff the opportunity to spend time together in prayer and worship before their school day begins.
“It is typically always on the fourth Wednesday of every year,” Mr. Brown, the head of our FCA says. “it has been going on for 30 plus years, ever since I was even in school.”
During the event, many people gathered during a moment of silence as an opportunity for anybody to pray to themselves or to speak out, forming in a circle around our flagpole. Those who did speak prayed for others such a as family and friends, or about current personal or worldwide issues as a way to bring students closer in worship.
“It is just a symbol of unity and prayer for all Christian students to come together,” Mr. Brown says. “We have encouraged a lot of our students to be bold and to ask friends to join. There was a lot of new faces there that I had not seen, also just students in general praying.”
After the event, students could also spend their remaining time to pray privately before the tardy bell of school officially rang, and before continuing on with their day.
The FCA will continue to hold special events for those interested in the coming school year. Mr. Brown specifically detail a special outdoor event happening around November.
“Our major two events we have are ‘See You At The Pole,’ and another one coming up next week on October ninth, it is on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the stadium,” Mr. Brown says. “We are going to have pizza, soda, cookies, and free food for the students.”
It will be a time for fun and games, as well as a time for worship, all while people attending can bond with each other for the evening. There is an expected number around 700 and up to be attending currently, with even formal Cardinals’ player Andy Benes attending. “He is going to come share his testimony, and there will also be students to share their testimonies as well.”
As Mr. Brown states, “it is a cool event where we can showcase the FCA but also open it up to the community. A lot of churches are involved, so it is an event that is helping to really unite fellow Christians and all the FCA’s in Wentzville, as well as all of our local high schools like Liberty, Timberland, Holt, and all of the Zumwalts and Howls will join too.”
There will also be several smaller events after the coming basketball games of the season. “We’ll have what we call ‘fifth quarters’ after basketball games to bring fellowship and to have some fun after basketball games on Friday, to really get along with each other,” Mr. Brown says.
Our very first “See You At The Pole” event was a successful event overall, and the coming months will prove to be an exciting new year for Christian students, staff, and others to gather together through not only our FCA, but through the community.
