Many of the students enjoy the robotics club and look forward to the meetings.
“I really enjoy the people there,” Donovan Wright (‘27) said. “I have learned a lot of new stuff like how to work with HTML and Java. I have also learned how to talk with people better because it is a big part of the strategy.”
“As a mentor I like learning stuff from the kids, seeing them grow up and get better at stuff,” Ian Deal, one of the coaches, said.
“Robotics has been a way for me to explore my interests, I’ve worked a bit in almost every area,” Noah Jansen (’25) said.
The people in robotics are very inclusive and delightful to be around- plus you can meet new people you wouldn’t normally be able to because the robotics club is district-wide and not just North Point!
Robotics is also flexible with the scheduling. Many students in robotics are also in other clubs, like band- despite these clubs taking up so much time, robotics is very flexible, so students can do both.
There are also lots of opportunities to connect with the community via a little something called outreach, which encompasses many things- for example, things like Parades, FLL, or the First Lego League, Summer Camps, Coopertision Saturdays, and Community events!!!
Robotics walks in many parades like the summer parade and the winter parade, to promote robotics and show the robot off.
The FLL or First Lego League is a learning experience for middle schoolers to help strategize, become better thinkers, and become better engineers- team 1706 works with two FLL teams, one called Rascal Robotics and the called Ricochet Robotics
The summer camps are where the high schoolers can go to teach other upcoming engineers more about robotics
Coopertition Saturdays are when the Robotics club allows other robotics teams to come into the building and work with the Ratchet Rockers to improve both teams- one team that the Ratchet Rockers work very closely with is the Midas Mayhems.
Sometimes the robotics team gets invited to community events where they can help out and teach people about robotics.
