It is a brand new school year, and for this group of seniors, it is special because they are the first graduating class who began their 9th grade year at our school. They are the first class to graduate after being here all four years.
On the first day of school, over one hundred seniors showed up before the sun rose for the senior sunrise on August 19. Even Alessia Zenaro, who is an exchange student from Italy joined in for this momentous day.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,“ Zenarro said.
Another exchange student, Mia Suvbke from Germany, wouldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate her first day in an American high school with other seniors who shared the rising of the sun on a perfect morning.
“It really helped me start the school year, ” Suvbke said.
Some of the seniors even felt tears in their eyes as they watched the sunrise, knowing this would be their last first day of school in their long 13-year journey.
“It was very fun, but also sad because I’ve been going to school with them since kindergarten and today was the last first day of school,” Maggie Wallace said.
Our College and Career Counselor, Melissa Pardo, organized this event.
“My favorite part was seeing everyone getting along, bonding, and seeing them happy knowing that they will make this a great year,” Pardo said.
There will be a senior sunset towards the end of the year to culminate their high school career.
