Are School Dances Worth It?
December 13, 2022
Where do I even begin? Many people might tell me I’m wrong, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. School dances are a waste of time. This debate is very controversial depending on what type of person you are.
When it comes to reality, school dances are a waste of time. For this opinion, 9/10 kids will disagree and that’s okay because it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.
Homecoming is the dance at the beginning of the school year in celebration of the new football season. In this dance, girls wear high heels and short dresses. Spending hours at the mall with your mom or friends trying to pick the perfect dress for the perfect night. As teenagers, we don’t really worry about the money and the prices of the dresses and how much money parents or the school puts in for the perfect night for all the kids at school.
Overall, the dance only lasts roughly around 3 hours and that’s probably about the same amount of time it takes to get ready for the dance.
I understand that school needs to have some fun and not just strictly learning but that’s why we have spirit weeks and football games. Some people at school might not have friends or they don’t like dancing.
Prom is even worse. Like homecoming, prom is a long process.
A long dress is ideal. It’s like going bridal dress shopping, you want the perfect dress with the perfect amount of glam.
Dances come with a committee that plans the night, the theme, songs, decorations and everything that has to go into making the dance beautiful for the people, that might sound fun, but I bet you it’s a lot of crazy and organizing work.
I love the look of the dance and how beautiful everyone looks on those nights, but most of the drama happens on this night. Being together with the same people for so long, people get aggravated with each other because they’re tired physically and tired of talking to the same people.
For all of these reasons, school dances should not be in schools.
