Meet Mr. Matt Nicholson
Matt Nicholson is a new teacher and coach at North Point. He teaches PE and coaches basketball, and this will be his 10th year of teaching.
“One of the biggest differences compared to other schools was the way things are set up,” Nicholson said. He was nclined to teach here because he thought it would be a great opportunity and that everyone felt like family. He thought there was a really good energy in the staff and decided to stay.
Nicholson has always wanted to coach basketball and believes that school can be boring at times, and by teaching PE he can make it fun and brighten the days of his students.
”As soon as I walked in it felt like home,” Nicholson said.
The relationship between the students, teachers, and faculty all felt like a family to him.
Nicholson is a good listener and can really connect with the students he teaches. Even though he may be strict at times, he has his student’s best interests in mind.
One thing that separates him from other teachers is his life experience. He lost basketball scholarships in college because of his grades. This motivates him to push his students to be the best they can be, so they don’t end up in the same situation.
Nicholson knows how it feels to have hardships and to work hard. He made the decision to continue school even after losing scholarships, and this was a very hard time in his life, but through hard work, he was able to get where he is now.
So far, Nicholson’s experience at North Point has been good. He has seen kids coming in before tryouts and working hard on improving their baseball skills.
“We’re all very excited for this basketball season,” Nicholson said.
“Right here,” Nicholson said after being asked where he sees himself in five years, so we welcome Matt Nicholson.
