Recently, the temperatures have been reaching into the 90s.

Having just moved to Missouri several months ago, one thing I find interesting is the weather. This winter we experienced snow and ice with school closings followed by dramatic changes in temperatures. Our overnight low temperatures would dip down into the teens, and we would experience harsh cold snaps typically only lasting a few days. The bulk of the temperatures this winter were in the forties and fifties.

With the onset of spring, which officially occurred on Sunday, March 20th, we expect to see the temperatures start to rise. However, this spring we have seen large swings in temperatures in excess of thirty degrees. Last week we had highs in the fifties and this week we are enduring summer-like heat in the nineties. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, meteorologist Michael Steinberg “Spring 2022, we expect warmer-than-normal temperatures” across most of the United States.

“It takes a lot out of you when it’s hot out like running for 5 minutes feels like you’ve been running for 20 minutes,” Brayden Harris (’23) said.

This is definitely one thing the Farmer’s Almanac predicted correctly! The calendar might say May. However, it feels like July and August and we are on track to break several record highs this month as temperatures continue to climb. With temperatures on the rise, it has many of us dreaming of summer and all the fun activities we will be participating in. After 2 years of being in lockdown due to the Covid-19 global pandemic most of us are anxious to be out and active.

“I want there to be a snowstorm to cool everything off so we could have a little more cool weather,” Elle Bampton (’25) said.

I know I plan on enjoying this fantastically warm weather by going to the Splash-Station to cool off and soak up every bit of sun and hopefully get a little bit of tan before the spring weather changes and we are back indoors due to stormy weather.
